DotComUnity was created in 2008 by The Care Division, a Poole based learning disability care provider, as a website directory to help clients, carers, families and service providers quickly and simply access the products and services they needed in Dorset and Hampshire.
In September 2008 after 3-months of operation, The Care Division decided to set up the directory as a social enterprise in its own right, and roll out the service across the whole of the UK. Over the following 5 years, DotComUnity grew to become the UK’s number 1 online disability directory with over 71,000 contributors.
DotComUnity looks to help reintroduce people into their communities and put them in touch with others. This simple, easy to use, and completely FREE, directory allows you to stay up to date with the events and activities taking place in your area. It covers every area of life and lets you know what exists to support you and the people around you. Anyone that requires care and support services, their family, friends, loved ones and support workers - professionals and service providers involved in their care - are able to use the directory to find what they need.
Following the creation of the Directory in 2008, DotComUnity went on to introduce a membership scheme in 2012 designed to enable access to a variety of Benefits including a Credit Union focused on supporting their financially vulnerable members. Unfortunately this was forced to close in 2016.
Since then the DotComUnity Directory has been unsupported, but after 3 years in the wilderness 2019 will see its regeneration and transformation utilising Bloom technologies to provide a new community platform, directory, calendar and market place.
Bloom... A new era
Bloom is a social enterprise committed to helping to support financial and social inclusion across the whole of the UK. Bloom's social technology platform will breath new life into the old DotComUnity Directory.
Until the launch of the new Bloom Community platform we ask that you continue to get involved with your community and carry on contributing. Find It! Use It! Rate It! Share IT!
